OUTSIDES And The Upside Of Being In

livepicOn Sunday, Tom Robison’s excellent BBC 6 Music show, Now Playing, showcased the half-year Zeitgeist from Hype Machine.

The show was a fantastic recap of a wild six months of music, and it collated the Top 50 most-blogged artists of the year so far.

Here’s the Top 10 – see if you’re surprised by its contents.

1. Disclosure
2. Phoenix
3. Chvrches
4. James Blake
5. Daft Punk
6. Youth Lagoon
7. Local Natives
8. Haim
9. Justin Timberlake
10. Lana Del Rey

Now. My idea of music blogging is different to your idea of music blogging, and what I dig around in music blogs to find is not what you dig around for. So while I’m only enamoured with half of the artists in Top 10 (and certainly haven’t blogged about any of them – no, not even JT) – I can accept that this mix of mainstream ‘n’ hip artists is just about right.

Frankly, this BBC show is about as good a playlist of the music of right now as you’re likely to get, so I urge you to have a listen for yourself.

Thus, in the spirit of proceedings, here’s Outsides, who are the kind of band that could possibly feature on one of these lists later in the year and in the meantime will probably pick up some “heat” from the “buzz blogs”.

That sounds like a horrible slur, and it’s not, I promise.

Seesaw is a terrifically whip-smart pop song that has fallen into an endless, kaleidoscopically-hued, fog-filled chasm. Bouncy basslines, dreamy synths, drifting falsetto vox, the lot. Nice.
